The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is an advanced surgical specialty which is
a bridge between surgery and dentistry. Our department is located on the ground floor of the
sprawling campus. It has a total area of 13,000 sq feet. We as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
(OMS’s) perform a wide range of procedures starting from surgical removal of impacted
(embedded) teeth, dental implants and removal of cysts of the jaws to more complex
procedures such as management of benign tumors of jaws, fractures of the face and skull,
temporomandibular joint disorders, oral cancer surgery and cosmetic and reconstructive
surgery for congenital and acquired facial deformities.
The department has procured new advanced equipments to run these various units efficiently &
effectively hence allowing us to provide prompt service to a larger number of patients in a shorter
span of time. Procedures falling under the category of minor oral surgery are conducted routinely
in the new minor oral surgery section. The department also has a dedicated room for implant
surgery where advanced methods like piezosurgery is being performed.
With the aim of providing treatment to indoor patients the department of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery
has also developed a fully functional state of the art operation theatre complex equipped with
surgical & adjunctive gadgets. These include surgical light systems, cardiac monitors, pulse
oximeters, cautery systems & the like. The patients being operated in the above mentioned
complex are also provided with recovery rooms following their surgical procedures with constant
monitoring.
The mission of the Department is to train both postgraduates and graduates dental
students to be proficient in the clinical specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, at their
respective levels.
The department offers post graduate training programme spanning a period of 3 years
with an intake capacity of 5 postgraduates annually. Our post graduates are trained by a
holistic approach to transform them as young maxillofacial surgeons who are not only
competent to perform various surgical procedures but also treat patients with compassion
and care.
We also train 100 graduate students per year where our aim is to make them proficient in
various basic oral surgery procedures. The aim of the oral surgery curriculum is to impart
in depth knowledge of the subject through clinical postings, seminars, journal
presentations. Both the undergraduate and post graduate students are given equal
attention and care in their preferred language of choice so that all their difficulties and
doubts are cleared immediately. The interaction of the students with alumni and other
post graduates in the fraternity is encouraged through participation in national conferences
& post graduate conventions. There are multiple ongoing research work by post graduates
and staff members carried out in the Research centre of the college.
The Department consists of a talented and experienced group of faculty who have utmost
dedication to guide the students and take their surgical acumen to new standards. These
faculty are supported by an excellent and caring administrative and clinical staff. We take
great pride in being able to serve the people with utmost care and compassion.
Our Department aims to be a centre of excellence, imparting the state of the art
comprehensive surgical management to patients and uplifting academic and research
standards to meet the same.
